New Lynn Latta Jewelry!

May 19th, 2010 by Cora

Our girl Lynn Latta was in here the other day dropping off some new jewelry and talkin smack with Barb and I. Her stuff is so rad, I LOVE IT. I’m drawn to the handcrafted and industrial look of it, especially her metal clay casts.

By nature these bronze, brass and silver necklaces seem unisex and could be worn by men as well (I had her make my boyfriend a custom necklace a few months ago and he loves it).

She also has some cute new smaller casts on more delicate chains.

I particularly like that bee one. It’s cast in 22k gold and hand painted.

She also brought in a few new resin necklaces which feel particularly playful and summery with their glitter confetti, teeny tiny sealife, and depictions of laughing children.

That one on the bottom is a chicken crossing the road.

In case you don’t about these funny little world’s Lynn makes – they are created from resin embedded in vintage watch frames, with multi-dimensional layers watch pieces, owl pellet bones, pictures, microfilm, action characters and anything else small and interesting Lynn can think of to add into a layer I suppose. Very unique and one of a kind.

Stop by Phlox and check ‘em out, we’ve got a good selection. Prices range from $45-$65

Am I Ready for the Fashion Show?

May 6th, 2010 by barbara

Tomorrow night is the Portland Mercury Annual Fashion Show this year titled Open Season.  It is chock full of interesting Portland designers, both established and emerging.  My line Isaac Hers will be showing 9 looks.  As you can see from my work table, I am still putting the finishing touches on everything. I love watching models strut down the runway in something inspiring, but the work behind the scenes to get the event staged is immense.  Thanks to the Portland Mercury, however, all of the coordination and production is completely handled! Whew!

I thought that this would be a piece of cake as my fall collection was already complete.  BUT…..then it happened.  What?  You ask.   That itchy feeling you get that you are forgeting something, like a jacket, leggings or the PERFECT accessory!  So, when that creative itch happened, I had to scratch it.   This means that what should have been a sleepy process became more effort.  I have added pieces to the collection just for the show.  Also, I completed each look with hand-made accoutrments.    Don’t get me wrong, the result of the work is Bee-utiful and the process was fun!  Aside from the long day, I am looking forward to tomorrow.  My husband is even coming!  I couldn’t have done it without the help of my girls here, Kyja and Cora!  You two have been amazing.  Thank you.

See the whole collection tomorrow!  Get all the details in the post below.

A Dutch Bike – The Ultimate Summer Accessory

May 4th, 2010 by Cora

I’ve wanted a Dutch bicycle for years. They make me think of pretty European girls in skirts, riding with giggles and a bouquet in the basket. There’s one that just came on Craigslist but it’s a little out of my price range… Sigh. It’s been a big debate the last two days.

Here’s a few goodlooking, fashionable folks with their bike accessories -

Which brings me to my next point, what to wear on a bike ride? I think a cute little dress or romper. Something with a fuller skirt or a stretch knit, and short.

Lily & Jae does a good job at that. Whimsical…

Cory Lynn Calter makes nice girly wear too. Love that third look and I’m almost into the sun hat too. We have a ton of super cute dresses from both these labels in right now. Summer bike riding wear. Now, summer hurry up and get here. April showers bringing May hail is so not cool, Portland. I need dresses and bikes in my life.

Dip Dye Knits

April 27th, 2010 by Cora

If you’re like me, tie dye is so shrouded in bong hit culture and ratty Grateful Dead t-shirts, that it was hard to imagine this ‘groovy’ print making its way back into my adult closet. Until I saw the pretty and subtle ways tie dye and dip dye fabrics are being spun into current, elegant and sophisticated looks on the runway.

Luv that tie dye denim, looks kinda edgy and punk.
Check out this pretty dip dye shirt and cardi –

That peephole over the shoulder is so pretty and subtle.
Also have noticed a lot of tie dye tights. I like them worn like this girl –
She’s so cute and artsy. Just a splash of bright color under a fitted little black dress.

We have some really cute dip/tie dye Zoa tanks and tees in right now at Phlox. Come say hi.

Isaac Hers Fall 2010 Photo Shoot!

April 21st, 2010 by barbara

Ever wonder what it takes to put together a fashion photo shoot?  Well, here are pictures of the process and talent behind the Isaac Hers Fall 2010 Photoshoot!  I know, this happened 2 months ago and I am just getting around to posting about it.  I have been so busy traveling and getting Spring in the shop, that I am now focused on Fall!!

Without a doubt, this shoot was sooo full of excitement and good energy.  Creatively, every one on the team was like minded and contributed fully, making the result abolutely AMAZING!!

The prep work, hair and makeup, by the extraordinary Tiffani Patchett, and our lovely model Lindsay Haldeman!

The amazing Kyja King did all the styling for the shoot.  This was the centerpeice for semi-futuristic concept.   LOVE IT!

Freakin’ bad-ass shoes from Halo!  Thank you Nathan! Seriously! OMG!

Brianne and Lindsay get busy!  These two really work well together.  Can’t tell, but it was getting really hot in Brianne’s studio.

Aside from designing and making all the clothes, this was my big job the day of the shoot!

Oh and, here it is, the hairstyle that stole the show.  This was the last look we shot and everything just kept getting better all day!  Stay tuned for the final pictures!!

Those big shirts…

April 19th, 2010 by Cora

I’m talking about oversized, unstructured, loosey goosey, billowy, ‘boyfriend’ t-shirts and dresses. These shirts are a natural progression of 80s fashion recycling itself and layered knits upon knits. They’ve been around for a little while now, Phlox is full of them right now but Portland has seemed a little slow to catch on.  If you’re not sure how to wear them heres a few tips.

A) When in doubt, belt it. I cannot stress enough what this will do for a lost figure inside a big shirt.

B) This look lends itself to being layered. Throw on a bright tank top or bandeau top to peek through. Think drapey and lets make that a word now. This drapey-ness can extend into your accessorizing with a flowy scarf and/or some long plain chains.

C) On the bottom, if its long enough, go bare-legged! Because its looser I think you can get away with a slightly shorter hem then is usually socially acceptable. Also, by nature many of these big shirt/dresses seem more casual so don’t be afraid to dress it up with a set of strappy heels. Or, the obvious choice – leggings!

D) Lastly, this look is COMFORTABLE. There should be no thought of the PMS bloat in this outfit. So revel in it. Fashion is not always so friendly.

There it is, easy as the alphabet. Portland trendsetters take note – big shirts, here at Phlox, now.
